Fitness Monday #3 (provisional series title)

Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 09:12:46 AM PDT

My fitness goal is to be fit enough to do all the other things I want to do.

Fitness is more than a workout:  it is comprehensive and includes the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.  Within the physical, it includes strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic, and muscles, and more.

Join us today (and every Monday) for a general fitness sharing and support.

Also, please vote on the time of day you would like to see this posted.  Monday during the day was last week's poll winner, and I am hoping to narrow that down a bit more.  I am posting a bit later today, due to the holiday.

Prevention Magazine

Prevention is the #1 healthy lifestyle magazine brand and the 10th largest magazine in the nation, with more than 11 million readers. The top online health magazine destination, Prevention.com has 1.6 million unique visitors each month. Prevention publishes branded books, special-interest publications, international editions, bookazines, and DVDs under the bestselling Prevention Fitness Systems as well as leads Team Prevention walking programs at marathons across the country.

With the tag line "Smart Ways to Live Well," the brand educates, with health news and research from trusted experts, including a 22-member advisory board; navigates, by making content understandable and actionable; and motivates, reminding readers that taking small steps can deliver life-changing results. Published by Rodale, Inc., Prevention covers health, nutrition, fitness, the mind, beauty, and medical science.

Prevention has long been one of my favorite fitness magazines, in part due to their holistic approach to fitness.  I also enjoy their sister publication, Women's Health, and of course, they have one for the men, too.  The original Prevention magazine is also a smaller format, and easy to carry around or read while bubble-bathing.

I love the idea of small steps accumulating to the big changes that I long for (for which I long?).  (I'm also a fan of Flylady.)  It is true that "foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."  However, some thoughtful consistency goes a long way in getting things done and keeping my crazy life manageable.

My fitness activities right now are: - beginning a marathon training program, and trying to choose a late-spring marathon - reading one "serious" book and several magazines and science fiction books at a time.   - trying to squeeze in some time for handwork, or even, machine sewing! - yoga and strength training, for physical "balance" (still trying to figure out a routine for this too) - worship with our congregation, and other social activities - tickling my kids, so we all laugh.

To feed your souls on this holiday, I recommend giving a listen to this:
MLK I Have A Dream Speech.  Check out the entire site for maximum "fitness"  :-)
