IowaIndependent:  Richardson to Direct Supporters to Obama

Wed Jan 02, 2008 at 10:09:26 PM PDT

[I apologize for posting a short diary, but it doesn't look like this has been blogged on this site yet.]

Iowa Independent just released an "exclusive" report that Barack Obama and Bill Richardson will ask their supporters to support the other if they do not reach the 15% threshold in the caucuses tomorrow.

They say their sources are "two sources familiar with the agreement" between the candidates.

The implications of Richardson's decision was discussed in a story by devilstower here.

This is somewhat cooroborated with a diary by irishamerican that discusses the possibility of deals with Obama by Richardson and Biden.  See it here.

This is all on top of Kucinich's announcement that he is encouraging his supporters to caucus for Obama if they don't reach 15%.  This does not appear to be a reciprocal agreement, however.

Update:  The source has issued a correction:  the deal is one-way, i.e. Richardson is encouraging his supporters to caucus for Obama if they don't make the 15% threshold.  Nothing from Obama to Richardson.  h/t to Quicklund.

Update2:  A staffer at the Richardson campaign is denying the rumor.
