Another Day On the Granite State Streets for JRE

...And this time I have internet access for longer than an hour!

It's been a big day, and right now I'm "coming down". We've been walking, and knocking, and talking all day long, followed by a town hall meeting tonight.

First, a brief recount of Winter Wonderland canvassing: it was warmer, it was sunnier and folks were in their PJ's and sweats in the middle of replaying yesterday's debate on tivo when I showed up at the door. Lots of folks are still undecided. Lots were impressed by John's strong showing at the debates, and a good number of them told me that they had decided to vote for him.

There were also a good number of Hillary supporters, and a good number still trying to decide. No one today offered to me that they had decided on Obama.

We went back for a nourishing meal of mac and cheese, salad and some awesome holiday cookies. We phone banked for a little bit and then broke out in car pools to go to Edwards's town hall later that night (and unbeknownst to either of us JeremiahFP caught a ride in my car. It was a hoot discovering that one on the ride back).

At this point I have to say something about this town hall.  I didn't realize Hillary had attacked John today for Mrs. Sarkisyan - I guess - daring to speak up in support of John after her daughter's death. By the time they reached the event tonight it seems they had just weathered the brunt of the political attacks. John introduced Mrs. Sarkisyan by recalling his own experience of losing a child, sharing that Wade was about Nataline's age when he died. He said it's devastating, and something that takes a long time to recover from. That Mrs. Sarkisyan was willing to be so public right now after her daughter's death was something that John actually briefly fumbled putting into words. He just looked at her, smiled and said "We're very proud of you".

Mrs. Sarkisyan then spoke, and it was very moving. As she talked about standing at her daughter's bedside and being told by her insurance carrier, "We're sorry, hon'" when denying her the transplant that would save her daughter's life, people were moved. Everyone in the audience felt what it was for Mrs. Sarkisyan to lose her daughter in this reprehensible manner, everyone viscerally felt the injustice of it.

I can't imagine how attacking Mrs. Sarkisyan is any way for Hillary to win friends and influence people. But maybe this is all a part of a Brilliant Campaign Strategy. Who knows.

Another tiring day. Another happy day. Another day to feel that - in your own little universe - you've made a difference.
