It's late and I'm not feeling great, but after thinking about this I thought the subject deserved some typing as well as podcasting.
I spent most of today in the emergency room, enjoying the luxury of my employer provided health insurance. TGIF!! Aside from the physical discomfort, once I arrived home I started thinking about some figures I'd seen and felt even worse.
What figures? Let me show ya.....
According to the Census Bureau in 2003, 11.4% of children (8.4 million) were uninsured. 8.4 million American children. Say it again and let the Culture of Life roll off your tongue, savor the taste, cock your head and listen as it echoes off the walls of liberty and freedom and judicial inactivity.
That should be heart-breaking to anyone who values Life and children in this country. It should be - unless your idea of Culture of Life is more, shall we say... evangelical.
Pat "Miracle Man" Robertson - 2004 - $191,866,000
James Dobson's Focus on His family - 2004 - $143,212,000
8.4 million children with no insurance and a slim chance of receiving adequate medical care.
"Gays shouldn't be married or have equal rights!"
8.4 million uninsured children, Mr. Dobson. What have You done?
"Judicial activists are leading Americans away from God's law!"
8.4 million uninsured children, Mr. Robertson. What have You done?
"Abortion is not a woman's choice, it's MY decision to make!"
8.4 million uninsured children, Ayatollah Falwell. What have You done?
"Social Security - it's gotta be private, brother!"
8.4 million uninsured children, Mr. Bush. What have You done?
Falwell, Robertson, Reed, Dobson, Terry, Mohler, Santorum, Frist, DeLay, Bush - I invite all of you to step up and show America what you're made of. Show us how much you value Life and children - put your blood money where your blasphemous mouths are. Give these kids a chance to be healthy. Insurance, free care for minors, subsidies, Something!
When you end poverty - when you make a fucking Effort, a fucking Statement, even a fucking weak-kneed Republican attempt to end poverty - when you reach out to the poor and the truly needy children in this country, I might listen to you.
Until then, shut the fuck up and stop trying to destroy America and Her children. Life is hard enough to navigate without your band of fuckhounds whining about non-issues.
A short but sweet podcast, if you're interested. Same message, with music and live cussin'.
