DC (93% for Obama) Affairs to be run by... Lieberman?

Here's another little something for Democratic Senators to think about when making their decisions about Joe Lieberman's future as Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
The District of Columbia went 93% for Obama in the November election. This surely came as a surprise to exactly no one.
And as you're no doubt aware, the District's affairs are fairly closely overseen by Congress. It's not a state, and as a federal district, Congress has a pretty big say in how it gets run and who runs it.
So who handles that on the Senate side? That's right, the "Governmental Affairs" side of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. And that means Lieberman -- the guy who must think 93% of DC pals around with terrorists.
It's true. According to the committee's web site, Senate Rule XXV(k)(1) gives them jurisdiction over the "municipal affairs of the District of Columbia, except appropriations therefor." Which is why this afternoon, Joe Lieberman's committee will be holding confirmation hearings for two DC judicial nominees. Right. Not the Judiciary Committee -- that's for federal judicial appointments. DC municipal court nominations are in the hands of... Joe Lieberman.
DC goes 93% for Obama, and the Senate hands control of DC affairs right back to... John McCain's man, Joe Lieberman.
How considerate of them!
DC has no Senator, folks. It's up to the Senate as a body to determine who belongs in that chair, and unfortunately, the people of DC have no voice in it. It's up to the Senate Democratic Caucus to speak for the people of the jurisdiction that gave the highest percentage of its vote of anyone in the nation to Barack Obama.
And right now, it's looking like they'd rather say "F You" to DC than go through an awkward moment with a colleague.
