Elitist Democratic Party Activist Insiders Swarm Caucuses - UPDATED X 2
Mon Feb 11, 2008 at 01:30:56 PM PDT
There she goes again.
Dismisses Obama's wins because caucuses are 'dominated by party activists' and 'they don't represent the electorate' and with a backhand compliment sweeps Louisiana off the map by saying Obama won there because of African-Americans.
Regarding the dismissal of Louisiana because of race - once again, how shameful, utterly shameful, by a desperate campaign.
But that's not the point of this diary.
It's this : Hillary blows off caucus states as being meaningless because they are composed of 'party activists' - now that is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.
Don't find it funny ? Follow below the jump for the knee-slapping absurdity.
So . . . Hillary claims the 'electorate' in caucus states is somehow disenfranchised. She paints the scary spectre of loud-mouthed, aggressive 'party activists' storming the caucuses to bully the electorate and thwart Her Highness's rightful coronation express.
Let's take a look at the Democratic turnout in 11 caucus states to date. It's absolutely laughable - ridiculous - preposterous - for Hillary to claim that caucus-goers are 'dominated by party activists'.
Or else . . . Howard Dean must be doing one helluva job.
Did you know Alaska has 8,400 Democratic party activists ? I thought it was a reliably Republican state. Had no idea that Howard Dean's 50-state strategy had reached practically to the Bering Strait to bring out 8,400 party activists in a state with a population of 683,000. By Hillary's calculations, 1 out of every 100 men, women, and children in Alaska is a Dem Party activist ! LOL
Colorado - I'm shocked again. Who knew that the Rocky Mountain state is literally crawling with 120,000 Dem party activists ?
Iowa. Wow. And here I thought those caucus-goers were your friendly next-door neighbors getting together for a chat over coffee and cake at the nearby elementary school. Reality check time : Two days after New Year's Day 2008, the Hawkeye state caucuses were swarming with nearly a quarter-million (227,000) cigar-chomping, backroom-dealing Democratic Party activists. In a state with roughly 3 million residents, did you know that roughly 8 of every 100 Iowans (men, women and children) are party activists ? I knew Iowans loved their politics, but wow - - just wow.
Idaho. Here's another shocker. I thought Idaho was all about potatoes and Republicans. Little did I know that Idaho has 20,500 hardcore Dem Party activists.
Kansas. Reliable Republican state, home of Bob Dole ? Think again. Ain't nothing wrong with Kansas. They've got nearly 40,000 Democratic Party activist elites who have nothing better to do than flex their muscle in the heartland !
Maine. The other day, 46,000 Maine Democratic Party activists bullied their way to their caucuses to so cruelly thwart the will of the Maine electorate. Elitist scum !
Minnesota. Holy crap. I thought those people in my neighboring state were lefse-chomping Lutherans who quietly lean a little to the left. Nosireebob, there are 210,000 elite Democratic Party activist insiders - and each of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes has 21 of them in ice-fishing huts plotting to block the will of the unsuspecting Gopher State electorate.
North Dakota. Well, hey dere ! Slap me silly and color me shocked. Had no idea that North Dakota has nearly 20,000 Democratic Party activists. ( Compare that to the population of the largest city in the state, Fargo: 90,000. )
Nebraska. Knock me over with a hair of corn. All these years I thought the Cornhusker state was a deep-red Republican stronghold. Never woulda guessed they've got about 40,000 Democratic Party activists.
Nevada. 120,000 Democratic Party activist insiders in NEVADA ? Are you freakin' kidding me. I guess that must explain Hillary's win there. ;) Latte-sipping elitists !
Finally, Washington state. 200,000 - count 'em - 200,000 hardcore Democratic Party activist insiders jam-packed into the Evergreen State - about 3% of the entire population. No wonder there are so many damn Starbucks there. They need one on every street corner for all those elitist policy wonks !
Been keeping count ? So there you have it. 11 states. 9 of them went for Bush in 2004. Yet since then, they've been literally swarmed by elitist Democratic Party insider activists - so much so that more than 1 million of them have bum-rushed those 11 states' caucuses in the last month to overturn the will of their electorate.
If that stealth invasion, that Million-Activist March, had not overtaken those poor unsuspecting 11 states to thwart the electorate, Hillary would rightfully have been crowned the presumptive nominee by now.

UPDATE # 1
This comment from another diary about this same story got me thinking.
What are superdelegates if not . . . PARTY ACTIVISTS ! Hello ! Now it becomes clear : The 11 caucus states have had cumulative Dem voter turnout of more than 1 million. Yet Hillary dismisses them as 'party activists.'
But a few hundred superdelegates - who ARE party activists - uh, what about them, Hillary ? ? ?

UPDATE # 2
Commenter christomento shoots down another Hillary argument. In the same interview today in which she pitches Louisiana into the ocean because Obama won there due to teh blakcs (who she 'respects' haha), and claims caucus states are 'dominated by party activists' who 'don't represent the electorate', she also said this :
'My husband never did well in caucus states either'
As christomento sez, Bill Clinton lost exactly 1 caucus state (Iowa) in his 1992 campaign for the Dem nomination. I assume he didn't lose any in 1996 as he was unopposed in the primary campaign that year.
So Hillary's observation sounds like a fairy tale to me !
