It's getting harder and harder for me to click through (as I try to do on a daily basis) to the
Iraq Coalition Casualty site. Every day, it's more disheartening to read about the carnage that has been created by the dishonesty and deceit of the Bush administration.
The U.S. corporate media rarely ventures outside of the Green Zone Cafe and Grille to capture the story of how the average Iraqi has been affected by the seige. Via icasualties.org comes a story from this past Sunday's UK Telegraph that provides a snapshot:
Last month there were 972 corpses received [at the Baghdad mortuary], almost all victims of violent death. The vast majority were brought in with bullet holes. Many had their hands bound and faces mutilated.
No one knows quite how many people are being killed in Iraq or by whom...
A warning for the squeamish: the story only gets more grusome from there...
Here's a stat that will provide a sense of perspective - the New York City morgue, year to date, has seen
428 murder victims. By all accounts, Baghdad and its environs are nearing 10,000. And that's only one city in a country that is awash in blood. Imagine for a moment if 10,000 murders had occured in NYC during the past year.
Do you think America would be up in arms? How long can the average 'murkin keep putting their index fingers in their ears, closing their eyes, and shouting, "Nahnahnahnahnahnah, I can't hear you..."?
And here's another sobering U.S. update from just a few minutes ago: Four U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq Bombing:
Four U.S. soldiers were killed Monday when a suicide car bomber attacked their checkpoint south of Baghdad, the military said. The soldiers were assigned to the Army's Task Force Baghdad, which is responsible for security in the capital and the surrounding area.
How many more Casey Sheehan's until the last one comes home?
