Obama is god - the Houston rally

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 02:35:39 PM PDT

I was at the Toyota Center last night to see Obama speak.  It was the second Presidential election rally I've ever been to - the first being Bill Clinton at Tranquility Park in '92.  And I was struck by something that happened right before Obama came out...

They didn't allow people to bring in their own signs, which is understandable.  Then they handed out the professionally printed "Change" signs... again understandable.  But THEN, they handed out hand-made signs to random people in the crowd.  I guess to give the illusion that the person holding the sign actually made the sign.
Now, while I find that a bit disingenuous, I guess I can still understand.  And I assume it's de-facto procedure for ALL the candidates. Right?

What got me was one particular sign "SEIU (hearts) Obama".  Considering how randomly these signs were handed out, it's possible/probable that the guy holding it wasn't even a member of SEIU.  And the guy with the 'Students for Obama' sign? I don't think he was student.  Or this guy with the "We have Hope" sign?  I'm not entirely convinced that he does have hope.

I actually find it more amusing than anything.  But I'm one of those "I like BOTH Dem. candidates, and will be happy to vote for either in November" type people, so what do i know?

Also, I'm amused by this picture as well:

update: the picture is just a funny Photoshoped image.  I just happened to have two different Obama thoughts at the same time.

update 2: I wasn't trying to make a grand point about anything.  I just found it interesting that the "handmade" signs that people were holding in the audience were actually "staff-made" signs, and I was curious if this was a standard thing.  I guess is it.

Also, I'm in NO MEANS saying that Obama really is God.  It's just a funny picture I found referencing the "Clapton is God" picture from yesteryear, and "Obama is God" made for a catchier subject line.
