Daily Kos

Goodbye to all that (with poll)

So, Hillary and her surrogates keep floating this scorched earth policy, warning that if she doesn’t pull off the nearly impossible feat of utterly clobbering Obama at the polls on March 4th, she’ll fight this thing out until the convention, pilfering superdelegates and pledged delegates alike.

She and her consigliores can only know what this will do, how it risks destroying the closest thing Democrats have had to a sure win in the White House since her husband couldn’t keep his hands of his intern.  But they’ve decided it’s worth the risk, that there is enough to gain by suggesting they’re willing to burn the party in order to save it.

Okay.  Fine.  Goodbye.

Not goodbye to DailyKos.  Not goodbye to the things I believe in.  Not “goodbye cruel world.”  Heavens no.

Just goodbye.

Goodbye to triangulation, to the notion that way to choose between right and wrong is to find a poll-tested,  mealy-mouthed middle ground designed to appease a a bare plurality.

Goodbye to political dynasties, to the idea that 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is a trophy, like the Stanley Cup, to be handed off and fought over by two families.

Goodbye to straw men.

Goodbye to voting for things your supporters later say you knew were wrong because you were afraid what other people might think of you or say about you if you stood up for what was right.

Goodbye to the political family that brought Dick Morris into the White House, and didn't seem to understand what he'd do after.

Goodbye to resume stretching, to pretending law school, working in a private firm, and utterly failing in the one task you’re given in an administration somehow adds up to 35 years of experience.

Goodbye to starting a general election with a candidate whose disapproval ratings hover around 50 percent.

Goodbye to high priced political consultants who put their pocketbook first, their candidate second, their party third, and their country last.

Goodbye to co-presidencies.

Goodbye to red-faced, lip-biting, not-so-righteously indignatious pouts.  (Thanks for the good stuff you did, but goodbye.)

Goodbye to Sister Souljah moments.

Goodbye to Tracy Flick.

Goodbye to the notion of entitlement to political office.

Goodbye to suggesting that women and men who are feminists to their very core are afraid of strong women just because they won’t support a certain, ironically weak candidate.

Goodbye to the monkey on our back, the elephant in the room, the albatross around our neck.

Goodbye to the idea that the United States Senate is just a stepping stone.

Goodbye to being more concerned about legacy than accomplishment.

Goodbye to 50 percent plus one.

Goodbye to “We know what’s best for you, so shut up.”

Goodbye to “You’re too stupid to notice if we change the terminology (think “automatic delegates”), or change the rules (think Michigan and Florida) in the middle of the game.”

Goodbye to saying goodbye to independents.

Goodbye to the so-called first Black president injecting subtle racism into political campaigns.  (Again, thanks for the good stuff, but goodbye.)

Goodbye to all that.

Poll

If Hillary is behind in pledged delegates AND popular vote, but somehow manages to twist enough superdelegate arms to win the nomination, will you vote for her in the general.
