Editors:
Monday you published a Michael Ramirez political cartoon showing Senator Harry Reid knocked out on a carpet labeled "Culture of Corruption" while a referee counts out $1,400.
So much for repeating a Republican talking point--now how about a little journalism?
Specifically, how about reporting:
- Has Reid done anything illegal? No, he has not.
- Has Reid done anything inappropriate? No. In fact he has consistently advocate the creation of a federal boxing commission--the opposite of any quid pro quo.
- How relevant is $1,400 (even if Reid had done something wrong--which he has NOT). Well, let's compare it to some Republican REAL corruption and incompetence.
Compare $1,400 to the $2.4 million in bribes paid to Congressman Duke Cunningham, and Reid could go to the fights 1,714 times.
Compare $1,400 to the $8.8 billion missing in Baghdad--which Congress refuses to investigate--and Reid could go to the fights every night for 17,000 years.
Compare $1,400 to the $10 trillion in GOP-Bush debt, and Reid could watch the fights for the next 7 billion years--approximately half the age of the universe.
To put it another way, just considering these cases above, for a balanced presentation, I hope and expect to see a few hundred billion cartoons on Republican real corruption.
You may have to hire a few extra cartoonists.
Sincerely...
