Since joining Kos the day after the election, and deciding to publish some of my thoughts on line - for the few folks that might happen to read them - I had the realization that what I mostly wish to talk about are not merely political issues, or philosophical issues, or even religious issues, but the intersection of all these that creates the daily reality of our lives.
A revolution of any meaning would require me to wake up early, and might not be 'charge-able' on my visa card.
Staying afloat, dealing with work, family, etc... these are full-time jobs.
And if any of you (and I suspect there's more than a few) are feeling depressed - on medication or off - living is hard work.
In the Utopian world we would all like to live (at least Kos subscribers) there is justice and reason, enlightened self interest, and a proper prioritization of private rights versus public good. There are people who love the earth, respect nature, tolerate the beliefs of others (where they don't run counter to the golden rule), and are educated, open to new knowledge, and unafraid to dream.
This is an achievable reality - maybe not now, maybe not in America, but at some time, somewhere.
How do I know this?
Because I could live there, and if I could live there, I know that others could too.
Now I'm not saying it would be perfect, or that it wouldn't require work, but it is an attainable future - for anyone willing to live in the spirit of that reality.
So, go about your day, be unafraid, do your best, know that there are smart, kind people in the world - in short, put one foot before the other and walk.
No party will save you, and ultimately it is your intelligence, and willingness to live in the light of it that may save them.
