After Admitting Waterboarding, White House Says It Is Legal

What the f*** is going on here. A day or so ago, White House officials admitted to waterboarding during a congressional hearing. They essentially admitted to committing a crime. Then they channeled Nixon in order to justify the actions. It is some of the most twisted logic I have ever seen.

The White House on Wednesday defended the use of the interrogation technique known as waterboarding, saying it is legal — not torture as critics argue — and has saved American lives.
President Bush could authorize waterboarding for future terrorism suspects if certain criteria are met, a spokesman said.
A day earlier, the Bush administration acknowledged publicly for the first time that the tactic was used by U.S. government questioners on three terror suspects. Testifying before Congress, CIA Director Michael Hayden said Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Zubayda and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri were waterboarded in 2002 and 2003...
The CIA, FBI, Military, and Pentagon all have removed waterboarding as a technique that can be used. That's because it is TORTURE. But what was a surprise to me was how they channelled Nixon in their justification.
Fratto said waterboarding's use in the past was also approved by the attorney general, meaning it was legal and not torture.
(emphasis mine)
So because the Attorney General does it, it immediately makes it legal. Used to be if the President does it it isn't illegal. Now, subordinates have that cover. America rejected that when it came from Nixon, and hopefully America is "awake" enough to reject it coming from Bush. That is, if we can squeeze some real news in between lactating pundits.
What is it about the gutter that Bush&Co loves.
