Returning with my family from the long Northeastern rite of Passover/School Spring Break/Easter holidays, I was shocked to learn about the Nebraska Legislature passing a bill to break up the Omaha Public School district into three districts with distinct racial makeups: one each White, Black and Hispanic.
This legislation was discussed in the New York Times and here at Kos. In particular, the diary here was somewhat sympathetic to the plan, certainly for a Democratic site.
I'm steeped in public education, and steeped in the Republicans aims for it, if the total destruction of an institution can de considered an "aim." I also know quite a bit about Nebraska, in particular about the strident racism of what I believe to be a solid majority of the white folk who live there.
The Nebraska bill and its certain court challenge is being monitored by right-wing activists everywhere. I thought I'd put this diary up in the event others here were also away last week and would like to comment. I'll post my own rant as a comment, so you can "Recommend" the discussion, if it so merits, without necessarily recommending "me."
