Response to the comments "Why I think Obama and Clinton should join forces" recieved

Thu Feb 07, 2008 at 08:04:17 PM PDT

Sorry about the delay here, classes got the better of me.

Anyway, I started to respond to the comments for my previous diary entry in a comment of my own, but felt the comment would be far too big - so I'm going to respond in this new diary entry instead.

First off, I never said who should be President or Vice President. I simply said I would prefer to see them form a ticket. It's not my choice to decide who would have what position - that's for the candidates to decide (if they do decide to be a ticket). I couldn't care less.

I'm sick of seeing people whine about this - especially the people whining about Clinton. Maybe I have a different point of view on Clinton because I grew up during Bill's years as president and wasn't paying attention to politics back then, but I do remember that during his years, we actually found and prosecuted the right terrorists - without torture! - and we had a massive budget surplus. I also see in my research of Mrs. Clinton that she has an incredibly strong track record on education, health care reform, women's rights, etc... Please, tell me again how that is a bad thing for this country, exactly.

I also don't particularly see where this "Clinton is too polarizing!" crap is coming from. Polarizing to who? ANY Democratic candidate will polarize the Republicans against them. Would it be better if Al Gore were in the race? He'd unite the Republicans even more than Hillary, yet I don't see many Democrats saying he shouldn't be the candidate. She's too polarizing? Please.

"Not progressive enough!" Fact of life: A true progressive will never be elected. Deal with it. Both candidates are progessive enough for me.

"They'd never do it! Their egos are too big!" How do you know this? How do you know their egos are too big? There is no logic to this argument. Mittens' ego was supposedly too big for him to drop out of the Republican race, but he's done that. This ego argument is a fallacy, especially considering all the "surprise" results that have come so far in this primary season.

"The american people won't vote for a woman and a black man on the same ticket!" ...yeah. If you're saying this, you shouldn't be in the Democratic Party.

I'm rooting for Obama right now, personally, but I would be as happy with Clinton as I would be with him as President. I do have some slight reservations about Obama's political experience, but I believe Hillary's 30+ years of experience balances that out quite nicely. I'm not listening to this "INSIDER! INSIDER!" nonsense. EVERYONE says that in EVERY election cycle. It's a redundant broken record I'm not interested in hearing anymore. I like both candidates. They'd be perfect for this country. Their strengths make up for their weaknesses. Both can easily beat the Republicans. I just don't want to go into the primary for my state (Oregon) with this Democratic race still dragging on. I'd rather check "both" and get us focused on beating the Repulicans in November.
