CALL TO ACTION -- Obama campaign needs your help NOW

Sat Feb 09, 2008 at 09:18:23 AM PDT

Update as of 3:30PM EST:  WA is caucusing now so there are no more lists on the website for WA.  Please continue to help us with Louisiana and Nebraska (caucuses in NE are staggered throughout the day and don't end until tonight).  And of course, we still need help in ME, which caucuses tomorrow.  The call team will probably be putting up lists for the Potomac Primaries (DC/MD/VA) shortly, which gives us just three days to GOTV (contests are Tuesday, February 12).  Thanks everyone and let's keep at it.

Yes. We. Can.

A couple of days ago,  I was on a conference call with the National Call Team from the Obama campaign to review nationwide phonebanking strategy for the next few days.  Durng the call, the campaign expressed an urgent need for calls to be made into Louisiana and Washington, which are holding caucuses and primaries today (Saturday, February 9).

Among others, we heard from the Louisiana State Director, who is particularly concerned that, given all of the hype surrounding Super Tuesday, many  dems are not even aware that there is a primary in the state tomorrow. The campaign has a great presence in the state but needs increased levels of phonebanking to boost awareness and GOTV.

On Wednesday, all stripes of Obama supporters, calling from the comfort of their homes or offices -- and some in their jammies -- made 10,000 phone calls into these two states.  On Thursday, they racked up another 12,000. And yesterday was another banner calling campaign day that included a merry, motivated band of kossacks last night.  Let's have another great day today and plow through 15,000 names before the day is finished. If just 1000 Obama supporters on DailyKos were to each make just fifteen  phone calls -- that's less than an hour's worth of work for each of us -- we could could get it done lickety-split.  Yes. We. Can.

In order to begin calling, just go to the campaign's state-of-the art online calling tool.

You get twenty names at a time, an outline of scripts for your particular state and more.  You can easily open the backgrounder and issues pages simultaenously to have all the information you need at your fingertips. Also, the home page of the website has a link to FAQ's for the contests being held today.  This is the place to go with questions about location, times, closed or open contests, eligibility to participate, same-day registration, etc.

Finally, if you speak Spanish, you can call Spanish-speaking voters in Washington by linking to the Spanish-language phonebanking tool on the bottom right-hand side of the online call page.

It's easy and it's fun to phonebank , and it WILL make the difference we need NOW.

Obama supporters maintain a critical mass on DailyKos and we have the opportunity to make huge a contribution via online phonebanking over the next few weeks, as the number and schedule of contests allows the campaign's and our efforts to be more focused and protracted.

Make some calls now, please, and comment below to let us know that you are on board, and to share your experiences and encourage others to join our effort today.

And caveat caller:

Maine is on EST
Louisiana and Eastern Nebraska are on CST
Western Nebraska is on MST
Washington is on PST

It is considered best practices not to call into any household before 10AM, so plan your calling accordingly this AM.

Update:  Last night and this morning, the campaign added Maine and Nebraska to it critical needs roster.  Nebraska caucuses today and Maine caucuses tomorrow, so prioritize, prioritize, prioritize :)

Yes. We. Can.

Si. Se. Puede.
