Finally, a worthy opponent for Pat Roberts in Kansas. Rumors have been swirling for some time now, and today Kansas Democratic officials confirmed that Jim Slattery will make an official announcement next week that he will be joining the Senate race. Jim served in Congress, representing KS-02, from 1983-1994. He unsuccessfully ran for Governor in 1994 and has since been out of the political limelight. However, he still holds a great deal of name recognition around the state and will be a good name brand to run against Roberts.
Pat Roberts has been one of the worst Senators in Kansas history. His judgement has proven faulty, time and time again. He was instrumental in the decision to give the President authorization to invade Iraq, and as the Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (an unfortunately inaccurate name), he has worked harder than anyone outside of Bush's "circle of trust" (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Libby, Bartlett, Hughes) to cover-up the crimes of this administration.
Now Kansans will have the opportunity to help Pat Robert's find a new career. One that doesn't involve destroying public trust, wasting trillions of dollars, and ending hundreds of thousands of lives.
We'll keep you posted on Slattery's official announcement and how you can help. It sure would be nice to have a Democratic Senator from Kansas....he would be the first since the 1930's. Watching this blue wave roll across America.....I believe it can be done.
