6 Questions for Clinton Supporters

Mon Mar 17, 2008 at 09:47:17 AM PDT

I'm not sure if there are any Clinton Supporters left here after the highly publicized strike, but as I thought about the issue after the heated debate last week it occurred to me that I don't really understand what Clinton's supporters are thinking at this point.  I don't mean that critically, I just am having a hard time understanding the thinking of those that want Clinton to continue her campaign.

Full disclosure, I am an Obama supporter, have written a couple of fairly harsh diaries about the campaign.  So I am not unbiased.  I had a lot of respect for Sen. Clinton at the beginning of the race but have become quite turned off by the way she has run her campaign.  But I am asking the following questions earnestly and I will try not to make them too loaded.  I am not writing this with the intent of snark, I really want to understand mindset of Clinton supporters at this point.

  1. Do you think Clinton has a credible path to winning the nomination?  And if so please explain it.
  1. If your answer to question #1 involves Clinton winning by using superdelegates to overturn a lead by Obama in pledged delegates and popular vote (a very likely outcome by all measures I have heard at this point), are you concerned that such a move could alienate many of Obama's supporters, particularly African-Americans, to the point of seriously damaginf the democratic party?
  1. Do you think it is okay for Clinton to go around saying that John McCain is ready to be commander-in-chief but Barack Obama is not?
  1. Regarding the situation in Michigan (ignoring Florida for the moment) how can Clinton go from "they're having an election that's not going to count" to "it was a fair election even though my name was the only one on the ballot and therefore the delegates should be seated" without losing crdibility and hurting the party's ability to control the primary process (which I freely admit is in need of major reform).
  1. Senator Clinton has claimed that she is "fully vetted" by virtue of being the target of right-wing attacks for some time.  Is this true in light of the fact that she has: failed to releases her tax returns, have not released names of donors to the Clinton library, has not released her earmark requests as Obama has.
  1. Clinton also claims that she is "ready on day one" by virtue of her extensive history of public service.  Given that her campaign has made several major errors including poor money management and a complete failure to plan beyond Feb 5th, what other evidence is there to actually support this assertion?
