This may fall into the tin-foil hat category but I have to get it off my chest.
Has anyone around here ever put forth the theory that the Patriot Act had nothing to do with international terrorism and everything to do with population control once the public became aware of what the Neo Cons were doing to America?
As someone who has been a proud American since my birth in 1956, I am having great trouble making excuses for my nation. A nation that attacks other nations without provocation and condones torture wasn't what we signed up for. It's just not American.
It is pretty obvious that at some point an American insurgency was going to begin under these chicken hawks. Did they just have the foresight to design a bill to ward off the downfalls of the Viet Nam War? Did they see a reemergence of organizations like the SDS, the Weather Underground and The Chicago 7 and realized that illegal F.B.I. wiretaps wouldn't be enough?
I just can't get around the fact that legislative proposals were introduced less than a week after the attacks on September 11, 2001 and Bush signed the final bill, the USA PATRIOT Act, into law on October 26, 2001. Forty-five days to destroy most of our civil rights?
How did this five hundred page document come into being in so short a time? These Neo Cons obviously didn't see the first draft on September 12, 2001. It had to be laying around for quite some time. Why would have that kind of manpower be put into a bill that never would have passed in the Land of the Free.
Were they that on top of their dark game that they had a draft of the Patriot Act designed all the way back in the late 1990's. Back in the early days of the Project for the New American Century, did these evildoers design a law legalizing sneak-and-peek searches without a court order and access to library records just to keep an eye on any Americans who were willing to go against them?
I have a dark feeling that at some point during the Clinton adminstration, Dick Cheney and his gang of draft dodging warmongers sat in some mansion and Big Dick led a conversation like this;
Well the first thing we need to do when we get little Georgie in office is get the money flowing by starting a war. Iraq would be best. Saddam's name is already mud around here and intelligence will be easy to plant. It will give us a srtonghold in the Middle East and we can keep our eye on American oil interest.
This time it will be a lot easier with no draft and with what we are planning to do to the economy there will be lots of rednecks and minorities signing up for service. There won't be any campus unrest with a volunteer Army. But just to be on the safe side, maybe we should design a new law expanding domestic surveillance.
With that Osama Bin Laden getting cockey, he'll probably srtike on domestic soil soon and we be able to sell all of this. Those idiots in the Senate and Congress will drink it down like mother's milk and the American sheep will just follow along.
I know this is not a very productive diary and speculation is not the Kos way but this is the way I feel about the Vice President of the United States. The second in command makes my skin crawl. It's not a good place to be.
I look at those Abu Ghraib prison photos and then see news stories of Cheney defending torture. It makes me sick.
This dark feeling about my country and the people who are running it is something I never thought would come out of my brain but it is the way I feel. I had to put it out there. Perhaps to let it go and get on with it.
Sometimes I wish I never developed an interest in politics because ever since Shrub stole the election from Al Gore I have been getting more and more depressed, thinking there is no way out from under these lying, cheating, stealing Neo Cons.
