Two Troubling Items in this morning's news

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 04:01:41 AM PDT

This is a quickie. Two news items I came across this morning that are somewhat worrisome to Obama supporters like myself. And I'd like some feedback.

The latest Gallup poll:

March 16-18

Based on Democratic voters:
Clinton 49%
Obama 42%

General Election based on registered voters:
McCain 47%
Obama 43%

McCain 48%
Clinton 45%

Now, I am assuming that this is due to the Wright fallout. I think it's necessary--vitally important--for Obama's campaign to do some heavy pushback. I'm willing to wait and see if the speech will ameliorate this down trend. Let's hope so.

The numbers could also mean that this prolonged primary battle is wounding the Democratic candidates. Party leaders, time to step up to the plate and show some cahones.

Okay, another item:

Bill Clinton is singing the praises of McCain. Grrr.

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
ALLENTOWN, PA -- Bill Clinton, who earlier today criticized McCain over the US presence in Iraq, praised the likely Republican nominee at a local college, saying he's a "very fine man" who'll be tough to beat.

"He paid as high a price as you can pay to serve this country without getting killed, and we have to honor that," Clinton said. "[And] he has some redeeming qualities for a Republican: he doesn't believe in toture, he supported campaign finance reform and he doesn't think global warming is a myth... So it is not gonna be all that easy to beat him."

He made the case that it's Hillary who would best match up against the Arizona senator, specifically mentioning her support in the military community.
