As we all have almost certainly heard over the past few days, Hillary Clinton has been caught in a lie about her trip to Bosnia in 1996. She claimed she landed under sniper fire, running to her car off of the airplane. Then TV footage of the trip surfaced, which was cleverly spliced together by JedReport with footage of her lying at her press conference about it:
But after she had been caught in the lie, she had this to say to the Philadelphia Daily News:
"Now let me tell you what I can remember, OK -- because what I was told was that we had to land a certain way and move quickly because of the threat of sniper fire. So I misspoke -- I didn't say that in my book or other times but if I said something that made it seem as though there was actual fire -- that's not what I was told. I was told we had to land a certain way, we had to have our bulletproof stuff on because of the threat of sniper fire. I was also told that the greeting ceremony had been moved away from the tarmac but that there was this 8-year-old girl and, I can't, I can't rush by her, I've got to at least greet her -- so I greeted her, I took her stuff and then I left, Now that's my memory of it.
"No, I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. you know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things -- millions of words a day -- so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement."
Emphasis added.
This begs the question, Hillary... can anyone really say MILLIONS of words a day? Let's take a look at the numbers.
I think we can all agree that the Harry Potter books are very long, especially the later ones. It took nearly all of us at least 24 hours to finish each of the later ones in the series. How many words are in some of the Harry Potter books?
According to a San Francisco Chronicle article, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had over 191,000 words in it. In addition, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix had over 255,000 words in it. So unless you talk really really fast, you wouldn't even get through 500,000 words in two days, let alone one.
But there's an even better example out there: The Bible. I don't think there's ANYONE out there who can claim to read the Bible cover-to-cover in a day. And how many words does it have?
Number of Old Testament Words (Hebrew) = 306,375
Number of New Testament Words (Greek) = 138,020
Total Number of Words in the Bible = 444,395
Hillary, I'm sorry, but it simply can't be done. You have been exposed as a serial exaggerator. Your hemming and hawing over your Bosnia trip throws all of your claims of experience out the window. Let's look at the facts: you had no security clearance in the Clinton Administration. Most of your time on trips overseas with Bill was spent with the wives of presidents and prime ministers. You did not play an important role in the Northern Ireland peace process. You were not a factor in SCHIP. You had nothing to do with the FMLA. You were a cheerleader FOR NAFTA.
I'm sure many of us have dealt with those in our life who have embellished their resumes. Sometimes it's something harmless, like claiming a 4.0 average when they really had a 3.0. And then sometimes it's really harmful, like people who claim they're doctors when in fact they never went to medical school. You, Senator Clinton, are in essence claiming a degree from the School of Foreign Policy Experience when you merely set foot inside the building. I'm sorry, but you have no standing on this one.
