Rasmussen sucks

Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 06:57:53 AM PDT

I always find it amusing how often folks on this progressive site cite the polling done by Scott Rasmussen.  Rasmussen is described charitably by wikipedia as "an independent leaning Republican public opinion pollster," who is anti-gay.  http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Rasmussen does polling for the right-wing Washington "Moonie" Times, as well as the equally right-wing Faux News.  http://www.reuters.com/...

And his polling on Bush's job approval is consistently higher than any other polling outfit.

Why do I bring this up now?  Because Rasmussen's blatant pro-Republican bias is crystal clear in the polling on the presidential race the last two days.

Rasmussen has McCain with a 10 point lead over both Obama and Clinton.

Yet look at the polling reported in the last two days by Gallup, NBC and Pew.  http://www.pollingreport.com/...

The margins range from a two point McCain lead to McCain trailing by five or six points.  Even Faux, in one of their non-Rasmussen polls, has McCain only ahead by one over Obama and trailing Clinton by three.

The uphot of this is that not only is Rasmussen an outlier, it is biased.  Obviously, its voter sampling screens out too many Democrats and independents.  This, in turn, allows Scott, as well as parts of the right-wing echo chamber like Drudge, Faux and the Moonie Times, to skew reality in favor of Republicans.  A progressive site like this one should not be used to promote such a biased pollster.
