Meaningless

For the record, as a few of you probably know, I really don't care about the presidential primaries anymore. It's hard to shake off the feeling that they are destroying my beloved DailyKos and leaving no room for diaries on anything else. However, nothing good will come from another rant telling people what to do or how to behave so I'm not going to bother. However, there is one thing that I really don't understand...
What is the deal with posting completely empty comments all over a diary that you disagree with? What on earth are you accomplishing? In the past few weeks I have seen dozens of diaries with no profane, vulgar, intolerant, dishonest, or offensive material spammed to high hell with title-less and body-less comments, all of which are well recc'd and replied to with the same kind of empty comments. And trust me that's exactly what these comments are: empty. They show an unwillingness to discuss, debate, or think.
Can some please explain to me what these people are trying to prove? Because from my viewpoint it looks like silly childish bullying, trying to suppress discussion of unfavored viewpoints. If this were just people calling out a troll diary for what it is I wouldn't be confused. But it isn't. It looks to me like a mean-spirited effort by the majority opinions on this site to force out the minority with their superior numbers.
When people post this kind of totally meaningless spam, what are they trying to prove?
