Muslim whisper campaign hurting Obama

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 07:11:45 AM PDT

I got off the phone talking with my mother in Georgia yesterday. She says, ya know Sherri, you need to look a little closer at Obama, my friend Jo told me he is a Muslim,

I immediately corrected her, but the damage was done. My denial didn't change her doubt.  Based on the Ohio exit polls, it sounds like this stuff may have played a part in last day voters minds.

I noticed Obama closed his speech with "God Bless America" last night.
A good start, but he's going to have to do more.

Some kind of "come to Jesus moment."

A strong speech on religion/ intolerance.
More symbolism in his ads, such as a sitting in church pix with family, or his hand on the Bible taking an oath pix.

More refernces to God in his speeches. Some throwaway lines like "one of the first things I learned in Sunday School when I was growing up, was the ten commandments- a couple of which which are thou shalt not lie or steal, maybe followed by a  comment about George Bush/McCain/Republicans.

I know this goes against the grain of many people on this site, and discussions about religion in context with politics makes people crazy, but he's got to nip this in the bud. If Obama is going to win, he's going to have to play the game, and  maybe show a little righteous indignation.

He had an edge in South Carolina that showed thru after the Bill remarkds. It showed that there was some steel under all that warm fuzzy talk.

I think he needs to let that show thru some more and he's got to directly, forcefully address this Muslim stuff.

He's got to put Clinton on the defense, maybe with tax returns, and put this muslim issue to rest, once and for all, if he's going to triumph.
