"Responsibility" and "Accountability" -- Pillars of the Blue Dog Democrats?

Congress is empowered to make laws, not determine whether those laws are Constitutional or whether those laws have been violated. That is the purvey of the Courts.

The individuals who are suing the telecoms for violations of their privacy are not doing so to "make money."  They are doing so to ensure that the mold that is creeping into our Constitution is exposed to some sunlight.

If America is to remain strong, it needs to remain a land of laws, not the land of Presidential whims. I pray that the Blue Dogs seek to live up to their calls for "responsibility" and "accountability" and do not side with the Republicans in providing blanket immunity for actions that have not been judged by those who bear Constitutional authority to do so.

The Blue Dog Democrats have always stood for "responsibility" and "accountability" in government. Their work in trying to reign in the budget deficit demonstrates courage and vision, in my opinion.

So I was dismayed to learn that the Blue Dogs are seeking to side with Republicans regarding the violation of FISA by the Bush Administration.  The mere fact that one of the telecoms, Qwest, refused to participate in the warrantless search program demonstrates that the legal ground on which the Administration was standing was not solid.

How can we have an accountable government if the means used by the administration is never evaluated by an independent judiciary?  This means judges, who earn their living by being "fair" according to the law.

As a long supporter of the Blue Dog perspective of "responsibility" and "accountability," it is in the country's interest that the actions of the Administration be held up to Constitutional and legal challenge.  Otherwise, everything we are fighting for in this "War on Terror" will be lost.  The America that we know and love will cease to exist.
