The cowardice of the Clintons

Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 10:28:43 AM PDT

I don't question their determination, but the one thing that the Clintons have never been willing to do is trust the American people. The problems that we face will never be solved until we have a President who has the courage to really do that.

The American people deserve that trust. They proved that in 2000,when in spite of the phenomenally negative press coverage  , and the Clinton "fatigue", they chose Gore anyway over "the guy you would prefer to have a beer with". But Bill Clinton squandered that trust over and over again and betrayed all of us who took up the painful task of defending him and his administration.

I remember back in the early 90's when Sen. Bob Kerrey said..... "Clinton's an unusually good liar. Unusually good. Do you realize that?"

Kerrey's remark infuriated me at the time but if I had been smarter I would have listened to him. I had hoped that Hillary would be a completely different kind of candidate and President. But after watching her "scorched earth" campaign complete with total misrepresentations of her own past and of Obama's, I have been terribly disappointed.

Something snapped inside of me as I watched the last debate.

She absorbed quote after quote from Tim Russert, as he listed her long support for Nafta and then she brazenly stated her opposition from the beginning.

Then I heard former Labor Sec. Robert Reich say that all of the conversations that he was involved with indicated that Hillary was in favor of NAFTA wholeheartedly, and that she merely wanted to enact healthcare first, before all of the political capital was used up.

Kerrey was right.

"Clinton's an unusually good liar. Unusually good. Do you realize that?"

Hillary, that is.
