I just finished watching it, and was delighted by Leno's opening monologue, which was wonderfully wicked in how Jay poked fun at Bush. If late night talk shows are any indication, Bush is toast, and burnt toast at that. Yeah, I know, Clinton got toasted too. But given 9/11 and Iraq, it's no small thing to see Our President of Lowered Expectations be made fun of on national television.
John Edwards appeared as a guest after Diane Keaton, who herself was looking forward to Edwards' appearance. I won't say that Edwards wowed 'em or was as charismatic as Bill Clinton was back in '92, but when John talked about working people and how we needed to bring a balance back between free trade and the concerns of those who are losing their jobs, he absolutely connected to the audience in that studio. There really is a nerve there that Edwards touched and whether he's the Democratic nominee or not come November, attention will have to be paid to the working people that Edwards himself came from.
Otherwise, it was a hoot!
