BREAKING: This Diary has just become meaningless. Bryan Lentz has dropped out and is now running for the 161st Pa. House seat. Apparently, Governor Rendel prevailed upon Lentz to run for the state house.
So, we have an embarrassment of riches here in the PA-07 - two Fighting Dems heading for a primary battle. I'm a Dem committeeperson and am eligible to vote at the Delaware County Democratic Convention on February 14th on whom to endorse. So. for whom should I vote?
Former Vice Admiral Joe Sestak has an impressive resume - command of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier group in the Indian Ocean during the War in Afghanistan; Director of Defense Policy for the President Clinton; master's degree in Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government from Harvard. OTOH, his stance on issues such as gay rights and abortion isn't very progressive. This might not be a bad thing in Delco, which is fairly conservative.
Bryan Lentz doesn't have Sestak's credentials, but he's more progressive. Also, the Delco Democratic leadership, behind Chairman Cliff Wilson, is backing Sestak, which makes me suspicious. I usually consider the Wilson faction's position and turn 180 degrees to find where I want to go. Also, Lentz has raised some real money
I guess it may come down to backing a more conservative candidate who may be more electable in Delco versus following my heart and going for the progressive.
My bet is that very few Kossacks actually serve as committeepeople in their local parties - which is a shame because it's so easy to get elected and you can have some influence. So, here's you chance to have some input. Also, please vote in the poll.
