So tonight Arnold Schwarzenegger was giving a commencement speech at Santa Monica College. I live just a few blocks away, and there were actually two protests planned for the event -- however, after going over there we realized that the college, or the city, had put the protestors about as far away as they could possibly be from the actual commencement, and Arnold.
So I walked over to where the commencement was actually going on. It was at the outdoor stadium. There were hundreds of people in the stands, possibly a couple of thousand, and all the students of course. I couldn't get in because I didn't have a ticket but I could see through the fence.
Arnold was announced, and the people in the stands BOOOED!!! They booed their OWN commencement speaker!
It was great. I couldn't stay because I had my kid with me and he was getting tired and I had to take him home.
The protests were okay, but everybody seemed to realize that the man they were directed at was probably completely oblivious to them, so the energy fizzled a bit.
However there were lot of people who showed up -- actually two different protests a block apart along Pico Blvd.
Seemed to be a lot of teachers and nurses.
Was anybody else there to add anything?
I'll try to add a few pictures later when I have time.
