Breaking - Is Wolfson the next to go?

Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 08:10:14 AM PDT

Sorry if this has already been diaried, but it appears that Mark Penn is NOT the only Colombian surrogate in Hillary's campaign staff.

According to this morning's Politico:

The Democratic-leaning advocacy firm the Glover Park Group, former home to Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson, signed a $40,000 per month contract with the government of Colombia in April of 2007 to promote the very agreement that Clinton now rails against on the presidential campaign trail.

Now this is nowhere near as bad as Mark Penn because Howard Wolfson resigned from the Glover Park Group last year.  Wolfson does, however, retain an equity interest in the firm.

Per Politico Wolfson is not the only member of the Glover Park Group with ties to the Clinton campaign.

Several other Glover Park employees have deep connections with the Clintons, including founding partner Joe Lockhart, who served as the White House press secretary under President Bill Clinton, and Joel Johnson, who was a senior communications adviser in the Clinton White House.

Six employees of Glover Park Group contributed a total of nearly $20,000 to Clinton’s campaign in 2007, according to data kept by the Center for Responsive Politics.

As I've said, this is nowhere near the conflict of interest that the Mark Penn case was.  At best, in my opinion, it is the appearance of a conflict of interest, not an actual conflict of interest.

So what should Hillary do about this?  Can she afford to lose Wolfson so soon after kinda, sorta, losing Penn?
