Clinton Loses Support of Add-on DC Superdelegate

The big media is just starting to pick up on the fact that add-on superdelegates may be a big factor in who gets the nomination.

At 2008 Democratic Convention Watch we've been following add-ons since before the first one was named.

Today recently named add-on superdelegate Harry Thomas Jr. of DC pulled his support from Clinton and is now uncommitted.

Ward 5 D.C. Councilman Harry Thomas Jr. was elected last week by the D.C. Democratic State Committee as a delegate to the national convention. Thomas, who had previously endorsed Clinton, was listed as a Clinton backer on a delegate spreadsheet circulated Monday by the committee.

But by the end of the day, the party had retracted that announcement, and Thomas was switched to simply "unpledged."

"He wants to confer with the party," said Vicky Leonard-Chambers, Thomas’ spokeswoman.

Thomas had previously claimed that he supported Clinton:

Clinton’s name never came up in Thomas’ brief remarks before the vote; he instead chose to talk up his own qualifications and big-picture issues. "The issue is what are we going to do when we get to Denver that best represents the District of Columbia," he said. (Rumors had swirled that Thomas planned to switch to Obama, but Thomas knocked those down after the vote: "I haven’t changed," he says. "I’m consistent.") - Washington City Paper

Another thing we're following is that NY Democratic Co-chair Dave Pollak, a Clinton backer, has reportedly resigned from his seat. His replacement is Reggie LaFayette who the article claims is also a Clinton backer.

So, with Pollak no longer a top party official, LaFayette, as leader of the executive committee, would join party Chair June O’Neill as a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer. Both are supporters of Hillary Clinton.

I'm not having any luck finding any better proof that LaFayette actually backs Clinton other than the statement above. Once we get confirmation on this change, Pollak will be removed from Clinton's list and LaFayette (pending a better source) will be added to the uncommitted list.
Update: We found a source that will put LaFayette up for Clinton once we confirm that he'll be seated before the convention.
