Guys, We're Gonna Crush McCain. New Poll: Obama +6

Sat May 10, 2008 at 07:49:06 AM PDT

I really think we're going to absolutely crush McCain. Now that a nominee has all but been chosen, Obama's poll numbers have SHOT up vs. McCain. Even Rasmussen, notorious for putting democratic candidates 5 points back from other polls, has Obama winning +3. This morning, I logged on to check all of the recent polls, and found this one, from La Times/Bloomberg:

Obama 46, McCain 40, Undecided 9

Crosstabs and more on the other side.

For example, among the 78% of voters who said they believe the economy has slid into a recession, 52% would vote for Obama, compared with 32% for McCain. A Clinton-McCain matchup showed nearly identical results.

So if the US economy continues on the current course, numbers look great for Obama. He's got a strong edge in a time of economic crisis, perhaps because of his "New Deal" feel and drive to fundamentally change government. McCain, on the other hand, has claimed that he doesn't know much about the economy, and probably would do much better if the economy was doing better.

Among people ages 18 to 44, Obama led McCain 55% to 35%.

Very, very nice part of this poll... the big part is, it shows that the future generations are trending democrat, HEAVILY.

African Americans would vote overwhelmingly for Obama, the first black candidate with a realistic chance of becoming president. In the poll, he carried 79% of African Americans, with 3% supporting McCain.

This actually seems UNDERREPRESENTED to me. I think this strikes me as SUSA-like numbers, and I actually expect Obama to carry around 90%. This should bump up his actual poll numbers, if you make this assumption.

Baby boomers:

Obama 45% to 37%. Whoever is elected will face serious Medicare and Social Security shortfalls.

Looks like Obama won't face any trouble carrying "hard working, white americans." so that meme is OFFICIALLY dead.

Fifty-six percent of voters said the economy should be the top priority for the presidential candidates to address. Thirty-four percent said the war in Iraq should be the top priority. Healthcare and illegal immigration were the only other issues to break double digits, with 11% apiece. (Respondents could choose two.)

Health Care + the Economy is what we want to see highest. This is good for us that these issues amount to more than 50%, because obama is dramatically winning this category. Those who choose the war in Iraq are probably a little bit more conservative leaning, mainly because there still exists a strong conservative base that AGREES with this stupid war.

Seventy-seven percent of voters, and 76% of adults overall, said the nation was "seriously off on the wrong track."

Liberals were most likely to say that -- 90% did -- but so did 62% of conservatives. Among independents, 82% said the country was off-course.

This VERY much plays into Obama's message of "Change."

All of this builds up towards a perfect storm for Obama in 2008.
