Ask me how the election went in IN-06?

Wed May 07, 2008 at 06:34:43 PM PDT

This is Congressional Candidates Wife, I am Sherri and my husband is THE soon to be elected Congressman of Indiana's 6th Congressional District Democratic Candidate Barry Welsh.

I have to suck in some air after saying all that.

So, ask me how the election went last night?

Yeah, go on ask me!

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention I've not slept in 24 hours??????

I am so excited that it's going to be A RACE in November!!!

I can't wait!!!!

When Barry and I had discussed the "realistic" results after Election Day in November.  Barry had thought the likely results would be Welsh 52 Pence 48 - I kept saying "Nope, Nope - it's going to be Welsh 70 and Pence 30 or Welsh 65 and Pence 35".

So, this is HUGE!!!!

When you compare Barry's numbers to the other Dems running unopposed in the state

Democratic Peter J. Visclosky 133939
Democratic Joe Donnell  119139
Democratic Michael A. (Mike) Montagano 76356
Democratic Nels Ackerson 82013
Democratic Barry A. Welsh 93924
Democratic Brad Ellsworth 134721

Barry has less votes than the incumbents who have free media and mailings and all of that, but a lot  more than Nels and Michael.   Vote totals
I don’t know how it is in other states, but in Indiana you do not automatically get the vote just because you are on the ballot.

For those that say it is all about money, Barry did not run a single ad, put out a single yard sign, or do anything other than show up and talk to people, oh and get punched in the eye standing up for voter rights and freedom of the press.  I talked to Nick Wermer, the reporter who was attacked, and he is fine, but has a scar on his elbow..

For those that think it is about money, with all due respect, Barack Obama outspent Hillary and she won. Mayor what ever his name is from Indianapolis was outspent 10 to 1 by former Mayor Bart Peterson, Dr. Woody Myers outspent Congressman Andre Carson, Jim Schellinger outspent Jill Long Thompson 3 to 1 for Govenor, and all those who outspent their opponents lost.

We need enough money, we will never out fundraise Pence, but we need enough money to keep the Independents and soft R's in our column in November.  Remember, Barry ran last time; he does not have to spend money telling people who he is.  They know who he is; they have seen him on the ballot three times now.  I do not know how much that translates into advertising dollars, but it must be a lot!

We need enough money, and Barry cannot be punched in the eye every month, so I am asking you to go to Barry's ACT BLUE page, and support our effort if you can, and ask others to help as well.

We have really enjoyed the last 3.5 years - establishing, building and uniting with the County Chairs and Clubs that kindly hosted rallies, meetings, breakfast events, etc. and of course the Netroots Nation YEAH!!!

I speak with gratitude and appreciation to ALL of YOU that helped make this happen.  May 6, 2008 made a difference!  It gives us confidence and such a feeling of validation that everything we have been saying, doing, thinking and feeling was to get to this milestone and in November to a WIN!  You have no idea how excited Democrats are in this district, unless you are in Indiana.  If you are not in Indiana, ask someone who is, how big this is.

Did I say what a great night it was last night?!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and with warm regard for all of your support, encouragement and faith in the campaign.

THANK YOU!!!

Love,

Sherri Welsh
Congressional Candidates Wife

PS – This is my own diary, it is not vetted by the campaign and is an inside out view of a Congressional campaign.

Thank you for taking the time to read my diary and all comments are welcome.  I will be here for about a half an hour to respond and converse.

PSS - UPDATE - I'm going to go to bed now, I believe my eyes are going to go on strike.  But keep on commenting, I will be looking forward to the discussion!

Love Sherri
