It's getting worse

Unemployment (new claims) came out today.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of U.S. workers filing new claims for jobless benefits rose more than expected last week while those remaining on benefit rolls hit a four-year high, the government said on Thursday.

It was the seventh straight week claims were above 3 million, evidence that unemployed workers are having a hard time finding a job.

Reuters story here.

Unemployment insurance doesn't even cover a lot of workers and replaces less than half of a worker's salary (the exact amount depends on the state in which you are employed).

Expect another down day on Wall Street. This is one of the stats that the market responds to. The experts were expecting bad numbers and the reality was much worse than they predicted
