Will Hillary Clinton "Hold Them" Or "Fold Them"? w/Poll

Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 04:06:31 PM PDT

So Its been a long race, lots of hurt feelings on both sides, and like in any family some bitterness and resentment is always around for a while, but usually things come around and the past is the past.

Certainly to many people what happened on Tuesday, and surprisingly to some of Hillarys must staunch supporters, was seen as a missed opportunity to start uniting and healing the party and basically give the nominee, in this case Barack Obama, the best possible political footing to start kicking some republican arse, which is what we all ultimately want.

With that said. All of the things that ever mattered to all of us during the primaries, to Obama supporters Change and to Hillary supporters some big issues, must notably Health Care are still on the table, yes we all liked our candidate better than the other teams candidate but we should never forget that the biggest difference between us and the republicans is that, us democrats, still are on the same team!

Now you can all judge me and say its easier for you to say your candidate won, yes, but that is partially true, I am a black man who started supporting Hillary Clinton years before she ever decided to run, my "retired" UID here at DKos was Hillary42008, so my respect and appreciation for the Junior Senator of NY has nothing to do with race or gender, I decided to switch to Obama after I heard his IA victory speech, to a lot of people it was captivating and electrifying what he had accomplished at the time and it made me in a way see something that I had probably never thought possible before, that the CHANGE he was talking about was real, yes its a slogan and probably one of the oldest ones in politics but the movement behind it was just astonishingly pure, it was based on the hopes of all of us who at one point or another have said "the government doesnt give a damn about me and my problems, they take my money and screw me every time they can".

Why I am writing this diary, unlike some pundits I think Hillary deserves a lot of respect, she made some mistakes along the road, Barack made some mistakes too, but dont ever believe this two hate each other, its not like that, its a really difficult thing for any side to loose, but lets be clear, they both ran the campaign they set out to run and the outcome is nothing more than the sum of both their strengths and their weaknesses. In the end there would have always been one looser.

The good thing about loosing within your own team is that you can help the winner win, and you can make your team win, making you also a winner, the race for the WH is not a sprint its a relay and it requires all of us working together, this is what we need now, I have seen in the last few days that most of the built up anger between DKos and MyDD supporters has almost vanished, yes there are still some dead enders out there lurking in the blogosphere who will not be happy with any outcome that dont favor their must hardened views, but its a small price to pay when the majority has already agreed that the only people we need to defeat are those on the opposite team a.k.a John McSame as Bush.

In summary I think its still not a given that Hillary will do everything that is required tomorrow, but I also think it will be hard for her not to, the Clintons are in a class of their own when it comes to politics, they know that a lot of things can be forgiven and some just cant and will never be, just like you wouldnt walk out and leave your brother stranded on the road, knowing he needs you to lend him a hand  and then the next day ask him for gas money (dont try it), the Clintons recognize that the good they still can do for the party as a whole will go a long way in restoring some of the missteps  they had along the way and restore the confidence that all of us at one point or another had in them.

Lets all get along, not play nice, I mean get along dammit! ;-)

Have a nice weekend!
