Clemens is Busted / Baseball Fans are Morons

Alright, so now the feds have proof that Roger Clemens lied under oath and procured steroids.

This whole steroids thing with baseball has been a calamity. Some blame the players and some blame the league for lax enforcement and implicit encouragement. I reject that and place the blame squarely on the moronic self-deceiving fans of MLB who were distracted by pretty home run chases while denying the blatant obviousness of what was happening to the sport.

Anybody who cared to recognize the obvious, even in 1999, could plainly see that steroid use was rampant. The players had bulked up to insane proportions, Sammmy Sosa's head size doubled, all kinds of slugging records were being broken, etc. And then there were reports from the ex-players like Ken Caminiti and and Jose Canseco detailing unchecked rampant steriod use.

So how do the fans react? With almost pathological denial. They believe the ridiculous denials from Major League Baseball and wholeheartedly accept the character assasination of Canseco. It's the fools logic that just because the accuser is impure, the accused must be pure. They just ate it all up, not wanting to consider anything that might color their enjoyment of watching home runs and the breaking of Maris' record. Just like the self-deluded morons who believed tobacco company executives that tobacco doesnt cause cancer, or GWB that the mission was accomplished.

Baseball fans, YOU are complicit in all of this. Sure, now we can laugh at guys like Palmiero and McGwire and Clemens with their boneheaded duplicity and ridiculous efforts to avoid culpability. But every single baseball fan who contributed to the climate of denail that allowed this to be perpetuated is just as guilty. I condemn the whole mess.
