One of the complaints about blogs is that they get the traffic, but don't actually affect policy.
Here is an idea on how to convert interest into a tangible result:
Suppose a lobbying organization was set up (or an existing one designated) that was to get funds generated by traffic on the blog.
The existing advertising revenue would continue to go to the owner of the blog as the proprietor of the business.
But, what if it was required that those creating personal diary entries (like this one) pay into the lobbying fund for the privilege of pontificating in public?
As part of the registration to the blog a paypal account (or similar) could be established and then whenever one submitted a new diary that action would trigger the payment. I'm thinking of something on the order of $1 per diary. So even for a hotshot diarist who posted the maximum of two everyday it would be about $700 per year. For the average person maybe only $20-30 or so.
There would need to be little in the way of administration by the blog owner. He would not see the money transfer and would not be subject to whatever election laws try to restrict donatations.
Comments to existing threads would continue to be free.
Just a trial balloon...
