I will be attending the big Kerry fundraiser in NYC in April and, in order to do so, I just maxed out my contribution limit to Kerry's campaign.
I am by no means wealthy. I have a job and an income, but I rent an apartment and do not own a car. I also only recently paid off my student loans, so my savings are nothing to envy.
Nevertheless, I thought this campaign -- and defeating Bush -- was important enough to contribute what is for me a significant amount of money.
Beforehand, I was thinking about getting one of those wide-screen TV's that would have cost in the same range as maxing out for Kerry. Now I definitely will not do so. I feel good giving to Kerry and helping save our country rather than purchasing a conspicuous consumer item.
Everyone who cares about getting Bush out of office and helping our country rejoin the community of nations should give money to Kerry -- clicking on Kos' Kerry link is a good start. You'll feel good if you do, even if you have to give up on buying a somewhat frivolous consumer product.
