McCain's Newest Ad "Pump": Blames Obama for High Gas Prices

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 11:48:51 AM PDT

Here is the ad where McCain directly blames Obama for high gas prices.  What the holy hell?!?!?!:

Here is the text, straight from McCain's website:

Script For "Pump" (TV :30)

ANNCR: Gas prices - $4, $5, no end in sight, because some in Washington are still saying no to drilling in America.

No to independence from foreign oil.

Who can you thank for rising prices at the pump?

CHANT: Obama, Obama

ANNCR: One man knows we must now drill more in America and rescue our family budgets.

Don't hope for more energy, vote for it. McCain.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approve this message.

Seriously, is anyone going to believe this crap?

There is then a ton of ad facts.  One problem with the ad facts.  NO WHERE do they make a connection between Barack Obama and high gas prices.

The facts rely on the notion that somehow the lack of offshore drilling is Obama's fault and the reason we have high gas prices.

Wrong in so many ways.

The the facts discuss Obama's quote about high gas prices being a good thing, if they had been moderated a bit in their ascent.  One might think McCain, with his attempt to spread his green cred would be in favor of high gas prices, as they use something called THE MARKET to incentivize folks to drive less, use public transport and buy more alternative and fuel-efficeint automobiles.  But apparently he just wants cheap gas.

Or pimping his gimmicky $300 million battery in lieu of a comprehensive sensible energy plan.

I could go on, but the ad and it's talking points speak for themselves, about the desperation and lack of coherence from the McCain campaing.
