As long as we have businessmen with a complete monopoly over the content of media, they will aim to keep reality away from the public. They will hire and present us professional liars. That's their job. That's Bill UnReally's function. Same for every other "commentator" from Rush Scumbagh right through the New York Times. All just different styles with one theme: leave it in the hands of the leaders.
And as long as we have businessmen with a complete monopoloy over media content, nothing will be substantially different than before.
If Bush and Friends resign en masse tomorrow, media will soon present us new, fresh faces who likewise will seek to dominate the world, and end the Constitution at home, only not so stupidly. (Recall the officially-approved and designated "viable opposition candidate" Kerry, who wanted to stay the course, but better, while quietly supporting the notion that the Bill of Rights is a threat to our national security.)
We piss away so much energy, and time, with reaction to what the Media does. They act, we react. All the time. That means we are always one beat behind them, they always seize the tactical high-ground, they always determine the topic, and we...? We stand there in shocked outrage that they've just stolen our watch, while they're moving our furniture out the door and onto a truck. We come up with nothing whatsoever that will actually break the Media monopoly of content.
Pick an issue, any issue. Ask yourself, if content control stays in the hands of the Cartel, exactly how much progress on your issue, any issue, do you honestly expect to see in the near future? The far future? Is it mysterious that I can guess your honest answer is "pretty near zero"?
We endlessly list Media's failures, immoralities, stupidities. But what else could we expect? Our participation is not needed for them to achieve their ends. (Our dollars are.) MediaCo is the conscious enemy of the public in general. Even chockful-of-well-meaning people there work in a climate where it becomes impossible to tell "tell it like it is." Change the media, or change nothing.
--Boycott the MSM, and tell them it's because they're propagandists.
--Organize local license revocation drives. This would get the enthusiastic support of everyone from born-agains to atheistic communists.
--Beg Newsreaders, editors, and reporters to stop aiding, actively or through silence, the destruction of America. Awaken their conscience, courage, and self-respect. (Here actually the bitching and moaning might be appropriate.)
--Work up meme campaigns along the lines of "Media Is A Public Enemy.' A huge swath of the nation would agree, well beyond people's political identities.
--Raise demand for local control of content, even demand Eminent Domain over revenues and content. "Break Up the Cartels!" You'll not get it, but you might put huge pressure on them to let ordinary people have access and input.
Once the levee breaks it's a whole new situation.
