Anyone Intersested In A New Activist Tool?

Tue Jul 22, 2008 at 07:35:02 AM PDT

Okay, the Dog has an idea for a tool for my fellow netroots activists, but before he spends a lot of time and brain damage working it out he would like to test the waters and see if there is any interest. First off, the tool will be free, think of it as the Dogs way of making us more effective in our efforts.

Now that we have that out of the way, the Dog is proposing to build a database (access) of all Congressmen/woman and Senators addresses and phone numbers, both in their district and in DC. It will include the committees they sit on as well as their party. It will have a form where you can put in your local pols (sorry, but life is not long enough for me to get all of that data in!) as well as a place for you to note votes and your contact actions.

The reporting will allow an activist to sort by topic, or state or house of Congress or by committee. This way if you want to be sure to call all of the Dems on the Subcommittee for Leash Laws, you can just pick it from the menu and the list with contact info will be provided. The down side of this is that you will have to have Microsoft Access on your computer. The Dog knows that not everybody pops for this on their home computer (it is about $300 last time I checked) so before I get all spun up and aggravate the Dog’s typists carpal tunnel the I thought I would just take everyone's temperature in terms of interest. It will take the Dog about two weeks to complete and he promises to provide an updated one for 111th Congress, when it becomes necessary.

So, who would like one?
