I've Got A Thought Or Two On Maliki's Statements

I try to be logical and utilize critical thinking at all costs, even if it goes against my party or my previously held beliefs. I find time to think and reflect helps in this process. I've been away from my computer and almost all news of any kind for about six days, therefore I had time to think about these statements by Maliki I heard while on vacation:
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki raised the prospect on Monday of setting a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops as part of negotiations over a new security agreement with Washington.
As I've tried to catch up on the news today I've read time and time again that Maliki doesn't really mean this, he is just being a politician. I tend to agree. But the problem is it is at this point that the Republicans stop their use of critical thinking and analysis.
Below the orange fold I highlight the simple, yet huge mistake they are making.
I believe that politicians are politicians. Doesn't really matter what party or what nation they live in. Generally speaking most will tell their public/voters what they want to hear so they can win election and maintain power.
I don't think Maliki is any different.
And when I heard segments of this story while on vacation I thought the same thing.
As I got into my car today to drive home from my 4th vacation I heard "he is just a politician" 24/7 on the right wing radio shows. Things like:
Oh Maliki is just saying this cause there is an upcoming election. You know as soon as these statements were made he ran back to the Green Zone and told anybody that would listen he really didn't mean it, PLEASE stay.
I actually don't doubt this is 100 percent true.
But at this point the problem is the right stops thinking.
Why is Maliki saying this? One simple reason, the majority of his public wants the United States out of Iraq. It is the same reason Obama says he'll (and I think he means it) get us out of Iraq. The majority of the US public wants it. Why does McCain talk about tax cuts, the majority of the public wants them.
But the huge difference, and I mean huge difference is if either Obama or McCain is elected and they don't do as they say we are not going to start setting-up IEDs on the side of the road or strapping bombs to our body.
Not so much in Iraq.
The reason our soldiers are meeting resistance and getting killed, why the Iraqis won't "stand up so we can stand down" is that the vast majority of them don't want us in their nation.
Us Liberals know this. Maliki knows this. But the Republicans don't seem to grasp this basic concept. They don't want us in their fucking country! If they did, cause Maliki is a politician, he'd be saying the exact opposite.
I just wish I could be a talking head on FOX Noise and be told Maliki is just saying "we ought to have a timetable for withdrawal" is just politics. Cause the one or two sentence response is just a slam dunk.
