Today, I sent an email to the whole Senate about Russ Feingold's Censure Motion. Senator Feingold is willing to fight for our laws and constitution. He was the loner who voted against the Patriot Act from the start. His actions are inspiring. Then I read a couple of articles about Democrats distancing themselves from the whole issue.
I. Am. Fed. Up.
The lack of response from the Democrats is disheartening and I don't expect anything from the Republicans anymore. At least not in any way that helps the people that they are supposed to "represent."
Maybe I sound a little down, I just get overwhelmed I think, with news every single day that just makes me want to rip my hair out. I can only shout at the TV and computer so long without being FED UP.
I admit, I am a political junkie, but I am not alone. We SHOULD question these policies which affect our lives much more than anyone actually realizes.
So I wrote a letter, read below...
Dear Senator,
I am writing to you to pledge my support for Senator Russ Feingold's motion to censure President Bush. This is a much needed action in our current political climate. The current Administration is slowly but surely rendering the Senate and the House powerless and unnecessary.
Our Constitution is in peril of being viewed as just a historical artifact rather than the living document which makes the United States such a distinguished and democratic country.
The President of the United States is just as accountable to the laws that govern our country as every constituent in every district, whom you were elected to represent. Senators are not elected to represent the President, they are elected to represent the constituents, despite the current trend of the former. When the constituents see that they are not being represented, the will elect someone else who will represent their interests.
I don't think that there is hardly anyone who disagrees that our enemies should be subjected to wiretaps and surveillance as to protect and defend our country. The issue here is that President Bush took these actions in direct violation of the law in question. He has publicly admitted to doing so and trying to change the law itself to justify the violation of it is an action that will set a precedent that will be impossible to take back. What will you do, Senator, when the opposite political Party is in power? Just look back to President Clinton's legal issues in the last part of his term and listen to what Senators and Congressmen were saying then. What is happening now is far more serious and the response from our elected officials is to not enforce the rule of law, but to change it as to justify the crime.
Spying on lawful American citizens without a warrant is against the law. Period.
Also remember, this is an election year and the majority of Americans do enjoy their privacy.
Thank you,
We have to keep raising this issue, we have to take action. Otherwise, we will lose our very precious civil liberties.
