Although DailyKOS begat YearlyKOS and the former has added considerably to our political dialectic, will YearlyKOS be a vehicle for change or a celebration of self-flattery?
On a re-read of the mission behind YearlyKos, the direction appears noble. However, if we believe our dire statements in DailyKos, then perhaps YearlyKos should become a clarion call to action rather than a love-fest for non-mainstream writers and would-be editors.
It was interesting to note that there are many "mainstream" institutional Democrats (Reid) as well as progressives attending.
Their attendance leads me to think that this is a "knighting" ceremony where Kossacks are inducted into the ways of the mainstream.
Do we want sanctification of our views, or do we see our leaders driving our country toward the cliff and need to exert more than moral opprobrium.
I voice this concern because our current Democratic Party has not, repeat NOT, shown the leadership we need as our country tilts toward oligarchy and a marginalization of our Constitution.
Perhaps YearlyKos can serve as the vehicle for a new Party or "Leadership" that communicates a clear vision while conveying our discontent with the status quo.
Practically, it could involve a straw person election, that chooses a leader and a "shadow cabinet" that offers a clearer distinction than what the institutional Democrats are willing to tolerate.
