Billmon has gone fishin' -- I know he'd have been amused with the
latest Orwellian doublespeak from our chairman of the Joint Chiefs:
In a visit to Baghdad on Thursday, Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, depicted the insurrection and fighting that has risen over nearly a two-week period as a sign of progress.
"I would characterize what we're seeing right now as a - as more a symptom of the success that we're having here in Iraq," he said in a news conference, explaining that the violence indicated there was something to fight against - American progress in building up Iraq.
Myers is continuing in a long tradition of citing Iraqi chaos and bloodshed as a symptom of 'progress'. You know, Myers and Bush really should thank al-Sadr and the people of fallujah for all the help with 'progress' in Iraq lately. Judging from Sadr's latest sermon it seems he is determined to help the US with ever more 'progress' in the very near future.
Can't you just see Sadr in the upcoming '05 elections?! Sadr. Right on Progress.
Myers should just endorse him now.
