It seems to me the Bush administration is milking these captures/assassinations. Saddam was supposedly blown up in Baghdad near the end of the war. Then his statue was toppled. Then they thought they got him another time. Now they finally have captured him. And, his trial will probably go on for months during the election year. All of these episodes gives Bush a "bounce" in approval ratings as people keep thinking we went to war to rid the Iraqi people of a homicidal tyrant, rather than remember we went to war because of WMDs and some imminent threat.
I also am pretty sure we captured "Chemical Ali" at least twice, if not three times since March. Because he was associated with the most killings, that was a particularly good story to bring back over and over.
How long can the Bush administration milk the Saddam capture and associate him with killing of innocent people? And, how will Democrats and other informed people be able to re-frame the issues?
