More good news is popping up in Pennsylvania. A new
internal poll done by the campaign of
Chris Carney has him within six points of incumbent Don Sherwood.
Guess who is major cause of this. You got it!
Our recent polling results show clear evidence of Congressman Don Sherwood's vulnerability. Not only is Sherwood weak, but his unpopularity is amplified by President Bush's failures, even in a district like Pennsylvania's 10th CD that has historically been Republican and conservative. This environment yields a strong showing for Democratic challenger Chris Carney, who is within clear striking distance of an incumbent who voters feel does not share their values, and is too closely aligned with a weak President.
Sherwood is drowning in pessimism and Democrats are united!
As we've seen repeatedly above, Democrats have consolidated behind opposition to Sherwood, while the incumbent is weaker with his own base. Carney's lead is strong within his own partisan base (73% Carney, 20% Sherwood, 8% undecided). But Sherwood does somewhat less well among Republicans (23% Carney, 69% Sherwood, 8% undecided). Sherwood also just barely reaches majority support with independents (42% Carney, 50% Sherwood, 8% undecided). When we exclude leaners, Carney leads with independents (37% Carney, 33% Sherwood, 30% undecided)....
These results in Pennsylvania's 10th CD, however, are clear. Republican Congressman Don Sherwood is unbelievably weak, thanks to a lackluster personal record, and a failing Bush Presidency. Despite the obvious Republican, conservative leanings of the district, Democratic challenger Chris Carney has a very strong chance to unseat the incumbent.
Pennsylvania, along with New York, could be the starting point of a potential "blue wave" that will stretch from Massachusetts to California. While Kos was lamenting Francine Busby's showing in the CA-50, Democrats took a longtime Republican State House seat outside Pittsburg. If Santorum goes down in the Senate race, he'll take Lynn Swann and 1 or 2 Congressmen with him. Will PA be the home of another revolution?
