Every week, Research 2000 will poll 2,400 adults nationwide to get an idea of public sentiment for Obama, the Congressional leadership, the two parties in Congress, the two political parties, and sentiment for direction of the country. The first poll was conducted last week.
Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 1/5-9. All Adults. MoE 2% (No trendlines)
Approve Disapprove Don't Know
Obama 67 29 4
Pelosi 39 37 24
Reid 33 41 26
McConnell 29 46 25
Boehner 21 47 32
Congress Dems 36 53 11
Congress GOP 24 64 12
Democratic Party 53 39 8
Republican Party 32 60 8
With the arrival of this week's results this Friday, you'll start seeing cool trendline graphs and whatnot. And longer term, we'll be implementing tools to allow you to create custom graphs. (e.g., graphing Latino views on Obama over a specific time period.) All of this data is being stored in a database, so we'll be able to do fun stuff to it in the future.
But as you look to the crosstabs of these maiden poll, take a look at the regional breakdowns. Three are very similar, and one is not. In fact, it's as if the South was a whole different country. I don't say that to start a round of South-bashing, which is counterproductive and pointless. But it's hard to escape the reality that while the rest of the country is pretty similar in its views toward the parties and leadership, the South goes its own way.
Update: Okay, I finally got around to asking R2K about the weird geographic breakdown putting Texas and Colorado in the Midwest. Turns out it was a typo. Texas is, indeed, a Southern state, and Colorado is, indeed, a Western state.
