A little more than a week ago, our friend, one bite at time, lost her house (everything above the basement) to fire. Fortunately, all the human members of her family are fine – but sadly, the family cat perished.
There is no way to express the shock of such a sudden loss. One bite is a dear friend to many here – so kind, so funny, so insightful and thoughtful. Let us do something to support her in a time of personal trauma. Let’s express our love to her for inscription on a quilt, something her whole family can snuggle under now, while the cleaning up and rebuilding takes place – but also something that will bring a smile years from now. I’d like to make it big enough to cover her bed -- a simple checkerboard full of community cheer, love, and bright fabrics.
I will inscribe your message in archival ink on a 4.5” square of muslin and heat set it for permanence. Leave your message in a comment below. If you would like to contribute for materials and some of my time, here is a PayPal link. I figure about $4 per message – or roughly the cost of sending a card. Except the quilt will be more useful to her than a stack of cards…
Please don’t be shy about leaving a message – it is not necessary to contribute to have your message on one bite’s quilt.
Here are the most recent projects:
BFSkinner’s quilt – received and in use!
Michele Caudle’s quilt – sent to the reporter who broke her story (and no word yet from him):
Kitsap River’s quilt top – now layered and ready for quilting. It will be mailed early next week:
I am sewing Frederick Clarkson’s quilt tonight and tomorrow – it is scheduled to be mailed later next week. My camera batteries are dead or I would share a picture tonight!
Messages have been collected for Dreaming of Better Days’ quilt and the fabric purchased. It’s going to be a something like Kitsap River’s quilt in organization – but with a different alternate block. I think it will be eye popping. Pictures next week!
