Wee Fish Ewe A Mare Egrets Moose (well, three days early, and I promise a K2 update next week).
Since we were out of the country for Thanksgiving, Casa Brillig is feeling thoroughly behind on holiday preparations. But even though we don't have gifts wrapped, cards sent (c'mon FedEx, deliver em already so we can send em!!!!!), no tree decorated yet, and still have unpacked stuff from our trip on the dining room table, there's holiday music playing in the car and throughout the house!
As you all know I love a good cover song, so here's my list of 10 Holiday/winter song covers. For some there is no 'original' artist; rather, it's a traditional tune that has one 'usual' version we've all heard. Not all of these are versions your mother would approve of! Sit back, enjoy, and share your favorite Not By The Original/Most Famous Artist holiday tunes!
- The First Noel Crash Test Dummies Bass voice lovers, this is your version. Plus lush harmony as a bonus!
- Away In A Manger Casting Crowns Yeah, there is no 'original' artist for this one. But it's gorgeous, this version.
- Twas The Night Before Christmas Henry Rollins My inlaws hate this version. We love it. You decide :-).
- Oh Come All Ye Faithful Twisted Sister Not even gonna TRY to get this one past Mom and Dad!
- Little Drummer Boy Apocalyptica No drums, but lotsa cello!
- Silver Bells Venus Hum What a silver-toned ovice she has!
- Gabriel's Message Sting Old Basque folk carol, this is Mr. Brillig's favorite carol ever.
- O Come O Come Emmanuel Enya Angel singing, indeed.
- Frosty The Snowman Fiona Apple Kinda folksy in a Fiona kind of way.
- C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S Ames Brothers No, it's not a cover. AFAIK, no one has ever covered it. But it's my dearest holiday song, and I cannot make a list without it. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere on the intertubes sung by grownups, so the link goes to a version sung by schoolkids. Painful, but there are lyrics, and you get the idea :-). you can hear a brief clip here.
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth a mailbox full of comment nominations. Let's see if I was naughty or nice this year...
From shpilk:

dengre reminds us that we don't get to pick and choose allies on the Right once the embrace has been made.
xaxado comments on moonbeams and how "good for the people" so frequently takes a bite out of corporations.
After terrypinder asks whether calling the religious "delusional" is bigoted?, RandomActsOfReason answers, reasonably, that it depends, and explains with nuance and common sense.
shanikka thanks Frankenoid, from a religious perspective, for running her annual Christmas diary.
I'm nominating k9disc's comment on health care mostly because the phrase bandaid for a Braintumor works surprisingly well in context.
From Yours Truly:
for the love of all things good in this world, please listen to grannyhelen.
ultrageek is simply eloquent today. Well, more than just today, but this caught my eye.
Just like Santa, we've got lists. Not Naughty and Nice, but Top Mojo lists! Elf-helpers sardonyx and cskendrick made the magic happen, I just package it for delivery :-).
