So distracted

So the week's preferred GOP talking point, pushed hard by our new GOoPer friend Eric Cantor (the House Minority Whip), is that Obama's focus on education, stem cell research, and other issues are "distracting" the government from efforts to save the economy.

Think Progress looks at how Cantor himself has focused on the economy as of late:

– H. Res. 204: Congratulating the American Dental Association for its 150th year of working to improve the public’s oral health and promoting dentistry.

– H. Res. 18: A bill honoring the life, achievements and contributions of Paul Newman.

– H.R. 997: To declare English as the official language of the United States.

– H.R. 836: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to reduce the tax on beer to its pre-1991 level, and for other purposes.

Maybe Cantor can acknowledge that he's capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time? (Or better yet, watch TV and eat pretzels simultaneously?) Otherwise, it would seem that honoring Paul Newman is more important to him than the economic well-being of the Untied States.
